Rolex Daytona La Montoya First Look

Hello everybody and welcome to this weeks blog,

After the announcement of the new Juan Pablo Montoya Daytona in collaboration with Artisan de Geneve, I wanted to firstly do a youtube video on this which can be found here on our newly launched youtube channel.

Juan Pablo Montoya has teamed up with Luxury Swiss Watchmakers Artisans de Geneve to launch a 50 off limited edition timepiece inspired by the mighty Rolex Daytona. And I have to say it looks absolutely fantastic.

Artisan De Geneve is a luxury customisation company based in Switzerland who customises Rolex watches to client design and specification, but also produce a number of their own insured models like this one.

The “La Montoya” is priced at 42,260 Euro and is limited to 50 pieces.

The seven-time F1 winner and double Indianapolis 500 winner Montoya said: “Artisans de Geneve embodies what I wanted in somebody who would build a watch for me. They are that somebody that was happy to remove limits to how a watch should be built.”

At first glance I thought it looked like a Hublot with the skeleton dial showing all of the inner workings of the Watch.

Juan Pablo Montoya is a seven time F1 race winner from Columbia known for his aggressive racing style both on and off the track. Montoya has won the Rolex 24 hours 3 times.

The “La Montoya” according to the artisan website took 2 years to develop and features a number of modifications to the Rolex Daytona.

The bezel has been finished in Carbon Fibre Black made from composite materials. Which is lighter then the original.

The dial has been redesigned to be a skeletal frame and is hand painted in the Columbian Flag colours and I must say looks absolutely fantastic.

The rotor has also been redesigned in 22 carat grey gold with an open work design.

The case back of the La Montoya has also been redesigned as an exhibition back showing all of the inner workings of This beautiful model.

Taking ‘hundreds of hours’ to produce this model is available to be built to order now from the Artisan company

All in all a fantastic timepiece which keeps its heritage to motor racing. I would go as far to say that this is one of the best Rolex customisations I have ever seen. In my opinion obviously.

I really love it but I have always loved the exhibition style watches where all of the movements are visible maybe it’s because I am a mechanical engineer. Who knows?

But if I had a spare 43,000 euro to spend on a watch I would certainly be considering this piece.
